About Stevens County Animal Outreach

SCAO MISSION

To advance the health, welfare and responsible care of animals, shelter them from cruelty and neglect, and promote humane awareness and compassion through education and training.

To be a RESOURCE for the community, providing information, education and outreach services for the health and welfare of animals.

To provide SPAY & NEUTER programs, including assistance for low-income homes. Decreasing the unwanted pet population is an important step to animal welfare in Stevens County.

To RAISE FUNDS to build an animal rescue facility that will provide a safe environment for unwanted, abused, or stray animals and facilitate the adoption of healthy animals to qualified homes.

To ASSIST law enforcement in cruelty investigations, rescuing, and monitoring of animals in need, and prosecution in order to protect animals from abuse.

“I’ve managed a 500 attendee out door event for 8 years now, been involved with rescue work since I was 12 years old, and love living the farm life. I know I can contribute to SCAO whether its fostering, managing, or advocating our mission.”

Secretary: Becky Washington

“Hi! I am Becky Washington, current Secretary for SCAO. I also schedule spays/neuters and transport dogs for surgeries. I have been a member of SCAO since 2009. I have rescued and fostered many animals at my home. My own animals are 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats and 2 rabbits. I would like to invite you to join us and help animals in Stevens County.”

“I grew up with dogs, though through my 20’s I resisted getting any animals of my own because I didn’t feel that I could give them the time they needed. That changed one rainy day turning to snowy evening in December 2003 when a co-worker introduced me to a stray cat that had been hanging around for over a week at a visitor center, subsisting on scraps. She climbed into my lap and made herself comfortable so I took her home until we could find her people. It turns out I was her home for the next 8 years. Fast forward to 2020 and my teenage cats helped me through some very tough times. While I was going through those difficulties, I decided to start volunteering with a couple of animal shelters and a new passion was born. My work in outreach to groups that may need some help to keep their beloved 4-footed family brought me to Stevens County Animal Outreach. Since I am used to budgeting, I was asked to step into the Treasurer position in addition to my outreach work.”
